流水無弦萬古琴

Flowing water, an ever-lasting Guqin without strings

琴聲起落，浩浩湯湯，專輯取名《流水夢》，這是從楊青先生指尖流出的一段琴音繞梁，是從古琴七弦淌出的一個詩意夢境。

With the rising and falling Guqin sound like the grandeur water, this album is named Dream of Flowing Water. It is a lingering Guqin music from the fingertips of Mr. Yangqing, creating a poetic dreamland from the seven strings of the Guqin.

“流水”是一種象徵。1977年美國發射的“旅行者2號”太空船，攜帶著金唱片“地球之聲”駛向太空以探索地外文明，這張唱片裏收錄了能代表地球文明的聲音，其中來自中國的音樂便是由管平湖先生演奏的古琴曲《流水》。裹藏著人類的期待與友好，那流水之勢澎湃自琴上，回蕩於宇宙間。星際如塵中此曲卻熠熠生輝，專輯用“流水”之詞指代古琴藝術，是對民族文化的記憶，對故往先賢的謝禮，對當下來日的豪情。

Flowing water is a symbol. In 1997, the Traveler 2 spacecraft, equipped with the gold record of “Sound from Earth” was launched from America to go to the Space to explore the extraterrestrial civilization. Collected in this record are the most representative sounds for the Earth, among which is a piece of Chinese music, a Guqin tune named “Flowing Water” performed by Mr. Guan Pinghu. It contains the expectation and the friendship from human being. The power of the flowing water upsurges to the Guqin and reverberates in the universe. In the dust of stars, this tune is shining and sparkling. The term of “flowing water” in this album refers to the art of Guqin, revealing the memory of national traditional culture, the honorarium to the wise men of the past and the lofty sentiment for the present and the future.

 “流水”是一種高度。在《流水》曲目的演奏中，使用到了“七十二滾拂”的技巧，演繹著水流從空山滴瀝行至江河浩瀚時，那綿延不絕的奔流洶湧，跌宕起伏的騰沸縱橫。“七十二滾拂流水”丈量出的高度，不僅是操琴者技藝的造詣，亦是傳承四千餘年之古琴藝術的成熟度。

“Flowing Water’ is an altitude. In the performance of the Flowing Water, the techniques of “Seventy-two Gun and Fu” are employed to depict the continuous flushing and surging when the flowing water change from the drippings to the vast rivers. The altitude measured by the “Seventy-two Gun and Fu Techniques” not only reflects the attainments of the performer but also the maturity of inheriting the art of Guqin with a history of over four thousand years.   

“流水”是一種精神。智者樂水，所樂不必局限於狹義的水，而是一份樂在山水之間、天地之間的態度。志在流水，是志在自然。大自然就是一張隨時發聲的琴，美的琴音源於自然的生髮，需要自然的印證，合於自然的規律。專輯以“流水”代言所有曲目，是以行如流水般的禪意投注於每一曲之內。禪意不玄，琴聲可傳；琴聲不遠，自然可傳。

“Flowing water” is a spirit. The wise men take pleasures in the water. What brings pleasures to the wise men is not the water in its narrow sense, but an attitude in seeking pleasures in the mountains and water, between the heaven and the earth. Ambition in water is in fact the ambition in the nature. Nature is a Guqin capable of making sounds at any moments. Thus the best sound of Guqin comes from the nature, and is in need of the verification from the Nature and in compliance with the natural laws. Using “Flowing water” to represent all the tunes in this album, it is to inject the streamy and natural Zen to each and every tune. The sound of Guqin can convey the meaning of Zen while nature can convey the meaning of the Guqin.

“流水”是一種呼喚。《流水》的琴曲可溯源至春秋時代的伯牙，他曾在山水間落寞撫琴，卻偶遇了樵夫鐘子期，子期從他的琴聲中聽出了“高山”與“流水”的意象，聽懂了他不需言傳的心聲。知其音，-了其心，子期是伯牙的知音。所以每當後世彈起《流水》，也寓意著古琴與它的主人在呼喚著知音。知音難求，《流水夢》，夢流水，夢知音。

“Flowing water” is a call. The tune of “Flowing Water” originates from Boya in the Spring and Autumn Period who, when playing the Guqin between rivers and mountains, came across Zhong Ziqi the lumberjack. From his sound of Guqin, Ziqi heard the images of the “high mountains” and the “flowing water”, thus comprehending his inner aspirations in no needs of uttering. Know his heart from his music, Ziqi is Boya’s Zhiyin, bosom friend. Therefore, whenever the people in the later generation perform the “Flowing Water”, it reveals that the Guqin and its master are calling for a bosom friend. It is difficult to have a bosom friend. The dream of flowing water is a dream of not only water but also bosom friend.

這樣的“流水”涵納著萬象，彙聚成一川承載有太多意蘊的洪流，流向一個夢境。專輯希望用古琴尋找到這樣一個夢，夢裏有素淨如水的琴音，有滌蕩靈臺的禪意，江闊雲高處寫詩畫空間，靜水流深中聽氣象萬千。

With rich connotations, such ”flowing water” gather into a river with much implication, running towards a dreamland. This album is hoping to use Guqin to seek a dream which has water-like clear Guqin sound, the mind-cleaning Zen. In the place where the river is vast and the cloud is high is the place for the poetry and painting while in the still and deep water are people listening to the magnificent and changeful prospect.

本專輯古琴演奏者楊青是九嶷琴派傳人之一，他演奏承傳了九嶷琴派琴風蒼勁堅實，清麗脫俗，講究吟猱節奏的特色。九嶷派是北方琴派中很有代表性的一系，其名稱源自近代琴家楊宗稷（時百），其號九嶷山人，民國初年在北京以九嶷琴社招收弟子，故名。楊宗稷的學生是管平湖，管平湖不但琴藝精湛、所著甚豐，且教出了不少學生。其中，王迪是位在教學和整理古琴文獻上都卓有成就的琴家，堪稱九嶷派第三代宗師。而楊青和喬珊、鄧紅都是王迪的高足，如此說來，他們是九嶷琴派的第4代傳人了。

Yangqing, the performer of the Guqin tunes in this album is one of the successors of the Jiuning Guqin School. His performances inherit the Jiuning Guqin School’s characteristics in being forceful, firm, elegant and beautiful, free from vulgarity and particular about the pace of stopping and rubbing. As one of the representative branch of the northern Guqin School, Jiuning Guqin School has its name from a contemporary famous Guqin Player named  Yangzongji(shibai), who has a mark of “Person of Jiuning Mountain” . In the first year of the Republic of China, he set up Jiuning Guqin Society and enrolled students and thus gave the name for the school. Guan Pinghu, the most famous student of Yang, not only has exquisite performance techniques and abundant works, but also has cultivated many outstanding students. Among these students is Wang Di, who has great achievement in both taching the the compiling of the Guqin literature, and could be well acclaimed the Third Master of Jiuning Guqin School. As the brilliant disciples of Wangdi, Yangqing, Qiaoshan and De Hong are the successors of the fourth generation of the Jiuning Guqin School.

專輯收錄的《流水》、《梅花三弄》、《平沙雁落》、《欸乃》等都是九嶷派琴家的手本名曲，同時還有新近創作的作品《越人歌》，體現出演奏者既有深厚的承傳功底，也有開拓的創新能力。

“Flowing Water”,”Three Movements of Plum-Blossom”, “Gooses Falling on the Plain Sand” “Oar Creak” and other tunes in this album are the famous tunes of the Jiuning Guqin School. Besides that, it also has a newly composed tune named ‘Song of Yue People” which shows that the performers have the innovation capacity as well as the inheritance competency.

揚青為這張專輯錄音所選用的古琴，是一把王鵬為2008年北京奧運會開幕式表演用而特別製作的仿唐“太古遺音” 師曠式古琴。“太古遺音”篆書款琴為仲尼式，桐木胎，黑漆朱髹，雖存世千年，仍品相完好。吳景略曾在50年代以重金在蘇州購得此琴，認為此琴難能可貴之處在於其音質高古松透、清越而多靈韻，輕輕觸按即得正聲。被譽為琴音中之佳“老生”，亟受珍重並為寶藏。這把“奧運”琴雖然是仿作，但其出神入化巧奪天工的工藝仍讓人震撼不已。

The Guqin used by Yangqing for the recording of this album is a shikuang-style Guqin imitating “Residual Sound from the Ancient Time” in Tnag Dynasty which was specially created for the opening ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The seal character-style Guqin of “Residual Sound from the Ancient Time” is Confucius-style, with paulownia as the raw materials, black paint and red color. It still preserves its sound conditions even though it has been existing for more than one thousand years. In the 1950s, Wu Jinglue used a large sum of money acquiring this Guqin in Suzhou. The most rare and precious point of this Guqin is it has ancient tone quality, clear and melodious and produces positive sound with slight touches. Regarded as the good old gentlemen in peking opera. , it is cherished and well preserved. Even though a replica, this “Olympic” Guqin still shock the audiences with its nature-excelling work craft.
